I'm tossing in the towel, guys. Two or three weeks in a row that my ISP
gives me crappy service during the day on weekends. My DSL modem looses
synch and I get disco'd from the server.

Sorry. I know you were looking to try to increase your fields, not
watch them decrease, but this is just an exercise in frustration for
me. (And now that Eldred has quit, I can't even take solace in beating
him. [Just kidding, Eldred. You were generally faster than me in
everything else, I imagine you'd beat me at NASCAR too.])

I hope you get some other new members -- with decent connections).

All the best,

You should contact your ISP and tell them of your connection problems. Make
them give you the service that you're *paying* for, and you can keep racing...

Real shame Darryl - last night you looked fine - no warping or anything but
you suddenly disappeared
It doesn't sound very good went your modem looses sync - like Eldred said
maybe they can check your line. There's stories about ground work somewhere
else hitting a cable or something.

It's probably typical for tech support everywhere, but there are just
horror stories about people calling for tech support from my ISP.
Grade two drop-outs reading from a script. "First, we want you to re-
install Windows...."

I'll probably take a couple of Valium and call them one of these
days, but the problem seems to be at its worst during the days on
weekends. I can race at night with very few problems, and I'm afraid
of some tech guy going into "fix" my lines and making it so I can't
race at night either.

You might try running a clean phone line from the Phone Companies D-Mark to
your modem to help eliminate inside wiring as the culprit. The Phone Co
will only guarantee a 9.6k connection so they may or may not help ya.

Mitch,

I have, in fact, tried connecting the modem to the phone wires at the
demarcation point. I even tried connecting the modem to the outside
of the house, running my cat 5 wire through an open window and over
to my computer. No luck.

Essentially, the ISP raised our throughput rates from 1.5MB down to
3MB down, and ever since then I've noticed that the modem is more
susceptible to losing synch. On the support forums, some people are
recommending a newer modem, which they say is less prone to suffer
phone line interference. Others say the newer modems are NOT as good
as the older ones. Others say the getting the speed throttled back
will help; and (of course) still others say that if they set the
speed slower, it will be WAY slower than even the old 1.5 rate.

Looks like there is a great potential to lose no matter which way I
jump. For now, I', just gonig to give up on weekend, daytime racing.
(My wife can usually find something for me to do, in any case, if I
look like I'm just dragging my ass around the house. <grin>)

Thanks for the thought, though.

We will keep you on the invite list of course, and you can show up whenever
you'd like. Hope you can somehow get things straightened out . :-)

Sounds like you may have some kind of interference if it's happening at a
given time. Something around the house on a timer maybe, or a bad street
light somewhere on the block. Also try changing out your filters.
