'93 SC cruise add on - followup.

Ok, I got it working!!! I needed to replace the SIR coil. Actually, I
just replaced the wiring on both sides, though i don't really think this
is ideal.

It's a funky setup - a little noisy, but it works well enough.

If you want to add it, here's what you need for the factory setup. I
don't know if it changed with ODBII - so get the parts for the side of
'96 you're on...

* The steering wheel switch. Make sure you get it for YOUR wheel,
they're different for airbag/non airbag types.
* The back cover on the wheel - ditto on above, plus color
* The 'SIR coil' for airbag cars. It's got two cables behind it
attached - one for the cruise/horn, and the long airbag. You *NEED* a
steering wheel puler for this!!!
* The cruise box - I think there's a few rubber groments for mounting
it, so check and make sure you've got all the hardware. Don't forget
the thingie on the gas pedal. BTW, you can disconnect the cable easy -
just pull the coller and unscrew. This makes removing the box without
breaking the cable easier. Trust me
* The clutch switch, if you've got a manual.

Tools:

* 8mm, 7mm, 5.5 (7/32?) nutdrivers, and a 10mm socket and como wrench.
* Steering wheel puller.
* Pilers to pull those %%#$% CPAs on the airbag crap. Not needed if
you've got no airbag.

Before getting the parts:

* Wiggle under the dash, and look for a flat 1" wide plug somewhere
along the wiring harness over near the gas. It was taped up on my car
to the wiring loom - pull gently and it comes down. The plug's black
with a red (on mine at least) thingie stuck into it.

* If you've got manual, check that gray plug for it is up over near the
top of the clutch pedal.

* Check the fusebox. If you've got a 'cruise' fuse, you probbably have
the above two, too.

I got everything I needed at a U Pull it for about 20. Your mileage may
vary.

Installing everything - do the underdash crap first. Pulling the
kickpanel off helps unless you're a contortionist like me. Remember to
adjust the switch and unplug the airbag down there if you've got one.

When you hook the gas cable up, don't tighten the thing too tight or
it'll pull on the gas...

Then do the steering wheel junk. You'll have to fish the cables around
which is a pain.

Once it's all in place, you've got cruise!

If you've got a decent u pull it by you and want cruise on your older
Saturn, you can generally do it pretty cheap, and it's really nice in
the end....
