Default 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo won't start

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that hasn't given me any problems
except minor stuff. It has about 344 thousand miles on it and when I
bought I was prepared to have to replace the engine or the transmission. I
was driving home and I heard a clicking noise coming from under the hood.
So I stopped at a gas station and inspected it and put some water in the
coolant tank. The noise subsided a bit once I put it in drive. But I get
home and stopped the engine. I tried to start it up again and it wouldn't
even make a noise. No starter click or anything. If anybody has any
insight on what the problem may be please respond to .
Thanks.

I would start by checking if the battery still shows voltage, if it does
then I would be inspecting the main battery cables expecting to find a
corroded connection hidden under a clamp or bolt on the other end. The
clicking could have been relays coming on and off due to low power.

There are a bunch of connections that can be suspect, the positive line
at both ends and the ground, at the battery, block or body.

Sometimes if you try it a few times, the bad connection will get hot so
a careful feel of the main connections can find it.
