'95 Del Sol SRS light
The light is stuck on and will not reset. I jumpered the plug to cause it to show the error code (blinks) and it says "Internal SRS unit failure". Any odds that this is anything _but_ a failed SRS unit? |

Of course, there are odds that you could hit the Power Ball tomorrow. Oh a bus could hit you. Since we're talking about a 15 year old car, I'm going to put a $5 bill on "failed SRS unit". -- - dillon I am not invalid Warick: "Who brings a gun to a knife fight?" Gil: "The winner?" |

I have a Peugeot 406 and it is a common occurrence on them for this error message to be displayed. The actual cause is almost always in the wiring where the seat belt tensioners are connected into the airbag circuitry. The cure is to remake the joints (soldering is often the best way), on Peugeots these joints are below the front seats.. As I said, this is assuming that the set up is similar from manufacturer to manufacturer and may give you a lead to solving your problem. -- Tinkerer |

Given that the price of the unit will pretty well total the car I'm probably gonna just have to live with it (or die without it...whatever). |

I haven't checked in to this yet (in the manual) but I'll give it a look in the near future. |

Name a charity and I'll make it $25. Really. > >Given that the price of the unit will pretty well total the car I'm >probably gonna just have to live with it (or die without it...whatever). SRS equipment (ie airbags and detonators) are "supposed" to be replaced every 10 years. At least that's what the manuals and NHSTA have to say. So it may not actually be a "failed" unit so much as a "I (the computer that knows all, sees all) don't trust this anymore" -- - dillon I am not invalid Warick: "Who brings a gun to a knife fight?" So it may not actually be a "failed" unit so much as a > "I (the computer that knows all, sees all) don't trust this anymore" I actually do not doubt that it is a failed/failing component. Over the last several years the light would occasionally turn on for no seeming reason roughly once a year or so, but the reset sequence always worked and it then stayed out for fairly long times. So whatever was occasionally triggering it eventually just became more permanent. Although I haven't exactly priced out replacing any of it I really doubt it makes any sense on a 15+ year old car, at least in strictly monetary terms. |
