Default Hesitation and sputter during acceleration

I have a 98 explorer,V6,125,000 miles,automatic tranny. I notice while
cruising at highway speeds (50-70), the vehicle will begin to
hesitate/sputter as I attempt to accelerate. Is there perhaps a sensor
that may be causing this? Otherwise the tranny itself has been serviced
every 30,000 and seems to operate well outside of the hesitation. Thank
you for any suggestions.
