Mostly OT... The law is the law....
I know this mostly off topic, but it deals with cursory subjects that come out of the threads with regards to law enforcement, rights, and supreme court decisions. This is the sort of thing that occurs when government and police have too much power and property rights don't exist. Given the new london decision by the supreme court and growing police power this is probably a window into our future here in the USA unless something is done to reverse the course. http://www.sky.com/skynews/video/vid...p10436,00.html |

Quit trolling Brent. Just looks like another liberal "let's give our working class' money to the 'unfortunate'." -- --- jaybird --- I am not the cause of your problems. It isn't anything like that at all. I don't see how it could be labeled 'liberal' at all unless you are as I always suspected, pro-police state. Only the most ardent police state cheerleader would consider it 'liberal' not to kick people out on the street with nothing, bulldozing their homes using government power so a developer can put up new condos. Maybe a bulldozer should show up at your home one day and plow it into the ground so you'll understand exactly what it is like. You should familiarize yourself with the new london case. Especially the court decision afterwards that left the people who fought to keep their homes with NOTHING, even less than nothing (debt) as a punishment for fighting it. You should watch the video again, you can see the cops there and learn what you'll likely be doing in a few more years the way things are going. |

You wanna know why? It's because I'm a blue collar, working class person just like most of us in here. I've never lived in a slum, never asked the government for money, and never done anything to cause myself to live in a street and ask others to support me. I left home when I was able, supported myself, and have made a pretty good living over the years. It's not about a police state, it's about people holding their heads high, doing what's right, and making a living for themselves. Law abiding citizens don't get jacked up by the cops. -- --- jaybird --- I am not the cause of your problems. My actions are the result of your actions. Your life is not my fault. |

How is asking not to have your home bulldozed and being kicked out into the street by the government "liberal" ? Don't you understand, it's the 'blue-collar-working-class' that is getting their homes bulldozed in china so that new private developments can go up in their place. It is 'blue-collar-working-class' people in New London that were kicked out of their homes to build a new private development. It's 'blue-collar-working-class' people who have been kicked out of their homes in other parts of the USA for the same thing. When it's your home, and your ass out on the street, it won't be so "liberal" to ask to be left the **** alone by the government. > It's not about a police state, it's about people holding their heads high, > doing what's right, and making a living for themselves. Law abiding > citizens don't get jacked up by the cops. So it's now criminal to want to keep your property, namely one's HOME? Guess you've been getting that government training where property rights activists are now considered to be "terrorists". You can say it's not a police state, but then you follow it up with a statement that shows it very well is. |

Mostly OT... The law is the law....
A very mild version of this happened right at home in Seattle
Washington. Seattle tried to put in a monorail. They took away peoples property/land paying them market value for it. Once it was realized that the monorail will never happen the city kept the land and sold it to other people at a price much higher than they paid for it since land prices had risen sharply since then. Many people are still upset and in court about this. They believe the land is still theres and should be sold back to them for what money they were given for them in the first place. O2 |

I don't think that showing how the government is riding roughshod over the rights of its citizens, aided by _their_ local police, is "liberal". The issue here is that the communist governments laws allow them to do that, and their police simply happily go along with it. The inference is that there is no barrier to the same thing happening here, other than us controlling our laws so that it doesn't. If we fail to control our laws, _our_ police are going to fall into line and trample people's rights because the supreme court said it is OK. IOW, the inference is that the police will simply do what's legal, and ignore what's right. Dave Head |
