Cheap Gas Cap on L300!
The gas cap on my L300 has to be one of the cheapest gas caps ever. Mine
will not even stay on right! Does anyone know where I might be able to get a replacement gas cap, preferably a locking one? Thanks!! |

No problems with the gas cap on my '01 lw300.
I was thinking of looking for a locking gas cap though; high cost of gas and likelihood of having your tank siphoned out overnight. The biggest culprit for that now is no longer a problem though. My son in his teen years used to siphon out my gas on a regular basis for the 'bomb' that he used to drive. He has since grown up to be a responsible adult (or at least cleverly disguised as such). I found one online, but they wanted $32 for a locking gas cap, $28 with
the online discount, what ever that is? I think the Saturn Dealers sell one too, I will checthat out. I think I am much more worried about someone puting something in my gas tank then in someone stealing the gas. And now that my gas cap is defective I have an excuse to buy a new, locking gas cap! |

Well I bought a new locking gas cap at my Saturn dealer this weekend. It
was $33, a bit high, but it is a Saturn part! It works a lot better then my old gas cap. And now I like the fact that my gas tank is locked, and can't be fooled with. Why this item is not standard on the L300 is really strange, after all it is only a $33 part!? I just don't get it! LOL!! |

Don't know, maybe the additional cost of managing another key code keeps
them from making the locking cap a standard. I suppose that one could rationalize the cost of getting an aftermarket cap as that of one full tank being siphoned out; at today's gas prices at least. Will look into getting one too. I need to also get the cargo net for the back. It was missing when I bought the car used. We drove the Lw300 from New York City up to Vermont this weekend. Gas consumption was a respectable 24 mpg especially considering that we spent a good deal of the trip going through some pretty steep portions of the Green Mountains. And, unlike my old underpowered minivan, passing on an upgrade IS possible. Gas at home has been about $2.30 and got a tank in Vermont for $1.92. I wonder if the difference is in taxes on the gas or what? Oppie > wrote in message ... > Well I bought a new locking gas cap at my Saturn dealer this weekend. Well I just went through a tank of gas with my new Locking Gas Cap, and
my gas mileage did improve somewhat! I got a 1 mile per gallon increase in my mileage, not much but I'll take it especialy now with gas over $2 a gallon. Not sure if I can contribute the mileage increase to my new gas cap, but at least it stays on, and it feels like, a "Real" gas cap! LOL!! |

I went and checked out my father's new L300 gas cap. I didn't see anything
wrong with it particularly for an elderly driver. No tight racheting and the tie prevents it from falling under the car. Don't see why you guys dislike it so much if it works unless you live in an area which requires locking caps to keep the gas in the tank. > wrote in message ... > Well I just went through a tank of gas with my new Locking Gas Cap, and > my gas mileage did improve somewhat! "Art" > wrote in message <Snip> .... unless you live in an area which requires > locking caps to keep the gas in the tank. > Yep! that's the ticket. Otherwise I have has no problem with the stock gas cap. Course, there was the story about the guy that tried to siphon some gas out of a parked camper van. The idiot had opened the holding tank instead of the gas tank. In trying to start the siphon by sucking on the hose, he got a mouthful. Cops came by, saw the guy sitting on the curb retching. After sizing up the situation, they just drove off figuring the guy had learned his lesson. Speaking of idiots, there was an idiot terrorist that was given the assignment to blow up a bus. He burned his lips on the tailpipe. Ok, I'm going now <G> Oppie |
