Default 95 suburban. thump sound when stopping

hi everyone,
i have a 95 chevy suburban 5.7 1500 with 135k miles. when i come to a
stop i hear and feel a thump. i did find that the leaf spring clamps
were loose and one was broken. i replaced them but the problem is still
there. also lately the "thump" has been noticeable when i drive off
from a stop.
any ideas on what it could be?
thanks in advance.
