82 CHEVY PICKUP...TOO MUCH GAS
IM NEW AT THIS SO BARE WITH ME....I HAVE AN 1982 CHEVY PICKUP THAT WAS
RUNNING GREAT AND THEN JUST STOPPED RUNNING. THE CARBURETOR IS DUMPING TOO MUCH GAS AND FLOODING THE ENGINE AS SOON AS YOU TRY TO START IT. COULD SOMETHING BE STUCK IN THE CARBURETOR? IF SO, HOW DO I FIX IT? ANY OTHER OPINIONS ABOUT WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING THIS? |

Some of those Chevy carburetorsm (and I don't remember which years) used
foam carburetor floats, that could saturate with gasoline and lose their buoyancy. Even if they were brass, they can leak and cause this type of problem. There can be a sticking valve, a damaged or decomposed seat, etc. This should be pretty easy to find. |

Try a few light taps on the carb near the gas inlet with a hammer to free
that stuck float. If that works, others have had success by then adding carb cleaner to the gas a few times. Else pop the top off the carb and see what's preventing the needle valve from closing (dirt, worn float parts, ???). The float on my 4 bbl boat ('83) sticks maybe two, three times a season as you have described ... so far I have been able to avoid replacing parts. > wrote in message oups.com... > IM NEW AT THIS SO BARE WITH ME....I HAVE AN 1982 CHEVY PICKUP THAT WAS > RUNNING GREAT AND THEN JUST STOPPED RUNNING.
