And, if Brock doesn't do it, it ain't a real Cannonball - it'd be something else. Plus, with the traffic the way it is now, could the race even be successful? There's just too much congestion out on the road, and especially too many trucks, to be able to run it. Yeah, you could hold it - there wouldn't be any records set, there would be a _lot_ more police chases with helicopters and airplanes and video, and hundreds of people sueing the competitors and organizers after the latter got out of jail. If memory serves: In one of his Car and Driver columns some years ago, he mentioned that a state patrol official or somesuch had a talk with him on the subject of ever staging another Cannonball, or anything resembling it under any name that they thought he had anything to do with. Yates didn't give details and may not have gotten any, but that was that for Cannonballs. He then opined that after several runs the race had made its point anyway. --Joe |
