Speeding: the fundamental cause of MFFY

An Induhvidual in an SUV cut in front of me as I was properly passing a
slow line of traffic. Instead of waiting a few seconds for me to
complete my pass and return to the right lane, the MFFYer drifted into
the left lane and forced me to brake. After passing the slow vehicle in
the front of the line, the MFFYer refused to return to the right lane.
With a line of traffic building up behind me, I cut off the LLB and
returned to the right lane. The MFFYer then ran the red light at the
next intersection without even speeding up. This left all the drivers
behind the LLB, who would have ordinarily made it through the traffic
light on green, stuck at the intersection. MFFY!

In a previous posting, "Harry K" > had

Wow, that's impressive. I guess being an American always helps
one achieve that end, though. :}

I have only 6 under my belt thus far, and I "cheated" WA by
*walking* into its extreme northwest corner (customs were pretty
much fast asleep at the time - US customs that is .

Indeed. Occasionally, however, they boo-boo and put a STKR and
speed limit sign together in the same place (usually, this is
avoided, lending further credence to the notion of keep-right
and speed limit laws being separate and not interdependent). But
that is rare; the only such place I can definitively think of
offhand is [under] an overpass in North Vancouver where a STKR
sign is placed on one pillar (the left, I think), and a 90 kph
sign is placed on the other pillar.

50 is not all that impressive, just an odd idea I had to do it. Memory
begins to fade but I don't recall actually -driving- in Hawaii, just
being there. Alaska would also sorta be a cheat as I only drove a crew
bus out on the Aleutian chain before Alaska became a state. Collected
all the NE states on a trip (Syracuse-Syacuse) just to collect them
while running up the miles on my new 62 Volvo 122s.

Well I just spent Monday driving from Pompano Beach Florida
to Raleigh, NC. Most of the trip was on I-95. All I can say
is, I can't really blame LLBers. I cannot tell you how many
times during the trip I was pressured while passing by some
ass, who as soon as I completed my pass, either pulled into
the right lane behind me and just sat on my bumper, or who
pulled ahead of me and then pulled in front of me and slowed
down. By the time I got home I was thinking seriously about
checking into a mental health clinic. I passed one guy 5
times while driving through Georgia and South Carolina. He'd
come flying by me locked onto the bumper of a faster car.
Sooner or later would loose the draft and fall back to a
much lower speed. As soon as I repassed him, he would lock
onto my bumper and draft me until somebody faster came
along. And he did not just follow me and match my speed at a
reasonable distance - he would ride my ass. When I pulled
over to he right, so did he. If I moved to the left to pass,
so did he. This happened over and over. If I had not stopped
for gas, he might have followed me home. And just in case
you think I some old fart gumming up the left lane, I
averaged 68 mph including 51 minutes of stopped time
(according to my GPS). My actual driving average was above
the speed limit. I don't LLB, but I do think I have a right
to pass slower traffic. I don't appreciate people riding my
ass while I am completing a pass in a legitimate manner. If
you don't think this happens, then you've never driven I-95.
I have sympathy for drivers who get tired of all the
Interstate BS and just take to the left lane and drive their
chosen speed. Why should they be courteous when so many
other aren't.

Speed limits are merely in place to protect lame and/or stupid drivers
from themselves. If the speed limit is where you feel comfortable driving,
then there you have it.
