Default AR 156 2.0TS Air Filter question

Hi!

Last year (about year from now) I had my -98 156 fitted with JR Air Filter
and I figured that it's about a time I should take it out for a cleaning,
however I dont usually do anything to my car myself so I pretty much lack
every tool (except hammer =)) I probably need.

So if someone here could tell me what is the easiest way to get my hands
into that filter (what I need to remove and how, what tools are best for it)
I would appreaciate it.

Regards,
Mika

Hi Mika,

As far as I know (but I let clean my K&N airfilter by some one else), you
only need a screwdriver (I think a crosshead screwdriver as I remembered
well), some cleaning oil JR prescribes and a vacuum cleaner. You
- open the airbox,
- pick out the airfilter (it is kept in place by the lower and upper part of
the airbox connected together, so when the upperpart of the airbox is
removed you easily can get out the filter itself),
- cleans the airbox with the vacuum cleaner,
- wash the airfilter carefully untill it is clean,
- let the airfilter dry and then re-oil it (not too much, else your airmass
sensor will be damaged and this is a very expensive piece to replace),
- place the filter back it in the airbox (in the exact way it came out) and
close it with the screws.

Good luck and happy driving!

Aad

It is also vital that you apply plenty of copperslip (or similar) to the
airbox lid screws to prevent them from seizing up.
And don't do them up too tight.
