Yep ... in my case i'll be using my 323i head ... or maybe my 520i
head, hmmm ... maybe even my 320i head, i already have these in the workshop!! They are all pretty much the same, with the 323i head having the bigger ports (or rather ... ports the same size as those on the eta's head). I've not decided what camshaft to use ... i might go for an aftermarket 285 degree cam, which should go quite well on an L-jet system. (A 285 degree cam on motronic v1.0 is asking for an earthquake on four wheels by the way, because it won't adapt). There is an issue with matching the corrct head to the correct block, people in the states have ended up with 8.8:1 compression prior to adding a turbo, simply by using later 325i heads with american pistons. In my case i should be retaining the 11.0:1 compression as the 323i head has identical combustion chambers to the standard eta head .... whereas the later 325i head has double semi-hemispherical chambers in the head, which adds a few cc's but reduces compression a bit. I intend to time the cam to keep the power band low down ..... and will be keeping the eta's inlet tract the same, although by using conventional bmw valve springs it will be able to rev to 6500rpm .... rather than its present 5000rpm. All good fun .... plus it uses up the spares i have!! -- Regards....
