2002 Ford Explorer XLT
I just bought a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT with 4.0L V6 EFI SOHC engine
and 51,000 miles on it. Shortly after I start the vehicle and begin to drive the ABS light on the dash lights up. Also, when driving there is a sound that is coming from the back tire( not sure which one or both) similar to the sound of studded tires being driven on bare pavement from inside the vehicle. Took it into a shop and mechanic said could be a hub?? Not sure what means. I did some research online and noticed that some have had the ABS light thing fixed by replacing the rear ABS sensor. Any other suggestions??? Also the hatch back exterior panel right beneath the window is cracked, any suggestions where I might be able to buy a replacement piece or do I have to buy the whole thing?? |

Not knowing what kind of diagnostics were performed, I can't comment on the
hub. It will need to be looked at but the ABS light and the noise could be inter-related. Why are you driving this thing with an abnormal noise???? Waiting for the bill to get bigger??? There was a TSB on the lower liftgate reveal..... without looking it up, I cannot recall if there was a variance in warranty policy for this concern. Used to be that we had to replace the lifgate but there is a service replacement panel available. The TSB covers the installation process. At the same time, inspect the liftgate hinges... I recall a concern dealing with hinge failure. "john" > wrote in message ... >I just bought a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT with 4.0L V6 EFI SOHC engine > and 51,000 miles on it. Jim,
As far as the tailgate hinge recall you are talking about, Ford told me about that this morning and said parts should be ready for replacement first week of December. The story told to me by the reps is the hinges could break causing the glass to fall out and hurt someone. As of right now there have not been any diagnostics done yet, it will go in on Saturday for that. Just a test drive with a mechanic, and he stated something about bearings and a hub.....Not sure what that means. I did a search online about the ABS light and it seems that some have had a similar problem and just replaced the rear ABS sensor. Thanks for the info, John "Jim Warman" > wrote in message news:j6Vkd.143265$df2.111776@edtnps89... > Not knowing what kind of diagnostics were performed, I can't comment on > the hub.
