Default How do I know if my 1999 Explorer Sport has the towing package?

I am trying to figure out what kind of trailer wiring harness to buy
for my 1999 ford explorer sport. I have done some research and see
that there are 2 different harnesses that apply, one for the tow
package and one for without. How do I tell if I have the towing
package? I have looked through all of my manuals and found nothing. I
see the two nipples behind the taillights but they are on both sides.
One of them you have to run a power cord to the battery which seems
ridiculous.

First look to see if the harness extension is in where the jack is stowed.
Look under the vehicle, under where the jack is stowed and there should be a
harness hanging down to which you plug the extension cord into

There are harness extension coming down from both taillights. There is
nothing where the jack is stowed. They are hanging down and connected
to the taillights. I still do not know which harness to buy, one only
plugs into one receptacle, which could work, but that would leave one
receptable empty.

The towing package contains an extra radiator for the transmission fluid.
This extra radiator is smaller than the engine coolant radiator and visible
behind the grille.

Go to your local Ford Dealerships service department and have them order you
a pigtail. I paid like $20 for mine. You will only need one. You can plug
it in to either the left or right side, which ever one makes you happy.
The other side is for well, whatever it is that it does best, I guess! It's
a 5-10 minute job.

If your Explorer had the towing package, It would have a hitch and the
wiring harness installed at the factory. Your local Ford Dealership will
tell you most anything you want to know about this matter, mainly because
they don't install hitches and hire out for electrical wiring matters.
