dodge ram transmission problem

I just bought a 94 dodge ram 2500 truck and am in the process of making

some repairs. I noticed the throttle valve cable (kickdown cable) was
snapped and I replaced it. I don't know how long it was driven like
this prior to me buying it. I've heard that driving without this cable

can destroy a tranny. I can't feel anything weird going on right know
but I'm wondering if the tranny's life has been severely shortened, and

are there certain symtoms I will notice if the tranny is going bad.
I've also heard that the dodge ram with overdrive has had some major
common tranny problems. Can anyone else verify this? Does anyone know

of anybody that has had no tranny problems with the dodge? It's got a
ton of power and is in great shape and I'm hoping the truck will last
at least 40,000-50,000 miles.


It is a 94 dodge ram 2500 5.9 gas 4x4 with 130,000 miles. It has a
plow but was seldom used. In the past 2 years the previous owner only
put on 1,000 miles. He bought a smaller truck to save on gas, and used

the 2500 to plow his driveway. The price I paid was too good to turn
down. I had the truck diagnosed at Chrysler dealer and they gave me a
list of problems about a mile long. Most of the list is easy do it
myself repairs so that's why I decided it was worth the money to buy.
I've already completed half the list, but having to buy a new tranny
would form me to re-evaluate how much more money I want to put into the

truck.


Can any dodge ram owners or mechanics familiar with dodge let me know
if this truck is a timebomb at 130,000 miles or if it is a truck
capable of 200,000

I would be worried about a trans that was used for plowing and had a
broken cable. Best thing you can do is pull the pan and replace the
fluid and filter and note how much clutch material is in the pad while
hoping not to find any mysterious pieces of metal.

Truth be told any vehicle with 130k on it could have transmission
problems . The good thing about this truck is that the rest of the
drivetrain is so bullet proof that you should be able to get to 200k
easily.
