Default trunk cable

hey yawl,
how unsafe is it to do away with the trunk
release cable in the glove box on a 78 vert?
anybody ever heard of the trunk flying open?
i'm scared the thing's gonna break and i won't
be able to open the trunk. plus it's much easier
just to open the trunk w/o giong in the glove box.
thanks,
jim

I had my hood fly up, even though the cable sucks, don't get rid of it.

Yes, it happened to me on my '63. The latching mechanism "somehow"
got broken. I was driving down the road with my wife doing about 55
mph or so when I noticed the hood bob up and down just a tiny bit. I
immediately hit the brakes and at the same time the hood came flying
up and smacked into the windshield. Didn't break it, but probably
would have if I'd been going much faster.
