Default help taillight 1985 Grand Marquis

Hi all,

My Dad recently backed into a trailer and broke the tail light lens
cover of his 1985 Mercury Grand Marquis. He recently got a citation
that seems to be "fix it or get it off the road".

I have not been able to find a replacement after trying the auto parts
stores locally and on the Internet. I also found a site that seems to
be wreckers parts but no luck there either.

The vehicle handbook says its a 1985 but the title seems to say 1989. I
have not got the VIN number yet but I assume that will give me the
year.

Does anyone know what years used the same taillight as the 1985 ?

Also the cover on the other side has a FORD part number. Did Ford use
the same part on another vehicle ?

The local Cop is prepared to accept a plastic piece glued onto whats
left of the light cover as long as it is deep red. I would prefer to
find the right part.

Thanks for any assistance.

The VIN number is [should be] on the title.

www.car-part.com , searchable used auto parts clear across North America.
Search results include only interchangeable years, makes and models. "SW"
means station wagon, "Sdn" means sedan.

You'll have to find out which year it is. The '83-'87 taillamps aren't the
same as the '88-'91 units.

Huh? Question makes no sense. Mercury is a brand belonging to the Ford
Motor Company; all parts for Mercury vehicles have Ford part numbers.

Thanks for the reply.

I will get a better look at the car this week since I live a distance
away from the parents.

I had heard that for some of the Mercury vehicles there was a similar
Ford model that used interchangable parts. I am aware that they are the
same manufacturer but some parts are stamped as "Mercury" rather than
"Ford"

So I will look for an 83-87 model at the wreckers.
