How much of a spec can you have for a gas pedal? And they were made in China. I wonder how much lead they have in them. The Denso pedals were "made to Toyota specifications", too but they arent affected. |

It's unfortunate that in order to be classified a US made car, they farmed out things to people who farmed them out to people who had them made in China at the lowest possible cost. This is NOT a Toyota issue, or a Toyota design issue. It falls on the manufacturer for the accelerator pedal, who tried to save a few pennies by having it made i China, and then approving the Chinese made part. If you knew anything about Manufacturing, you'd know Toyota puts the onus on the suppliers to make sure the part is correct. They 'sample' the first few units; if these pass an incoming inspection then they are marked acceptable and approved for use. From there on, a sampling system is used based on the initial quality of the sample. If a flaw was found during receiving inspection, then the sampling rate goes up, up to 100%. CTS probably made their first few thousand accelerators in the US, using better quality materials. After the initial inspection was done, and subsequent inspections of pieces received later, they may have been 'waived' from any further inspection. At some point CTS probably got the bright idea that they could save a few pennies per unit by having them made in China (remember, this goes back years). Their people approved the Chinese made unit, and passed it to Toyota. Now, if they never TOLD Toyota they were having thier manufacturing done elsewhere, Toyota would still be operating on the original unit inspection where CTS got their Valued Supplier rating and probably were not inspecting the pedals further. So now they're installing Chinese made pedals that are using inferior materials thinking they're still OEM CTS parts. Scary enough when applied to Toyota. NOW apply this to aircraft equipment manufacturers. I know, we did it at an OEN A/C manufacturer where I used to work. Fly much? |

I know the authorities in the UK regularly reject Chinese made stuff because of inferior workmanship or lead in paint or whatever. -- Clive |

Fly much? First time I flew in a Huey in Vietnam from Tan Son Nhut to
Can Tho, I was sitting on the floor with a safety belt around my waist, connected to a metal ring in the floor and my leggs dangling out the door. That was Fun! http://www.tsna.org http://www.114thaviationcompany.com cuhulin, the flyboy |
