The above article got me to wanting to know, has anyone given any
thought into what happens when a hybrid (which I am assuming have rather
large batteries) gets crunched in an accident?

Admitted, I don't know a hell of alot about hybrids, but are the
police/firefighters trained to handle the mess if the batteries rupture
in a wreck?

Any agency with trained personnel for handling HAZMAT would handle the
mess. Not that many communities have HAZMAT-trained emergency
personnel.

I've no first-hand knowledge, but have read that emergency crews get
some training for these vehicles, because of the higher voltages and
therefore electrical dangers.

Actually, almost all community emergency systems have HAZMAT trained
personel; though many don't have specific teams, the people are
trained for this type of situation.
