Thirteen years with a Miata in Dallas, and never once did I consider it too
hot to keep the top down. Of course, I DO often drive with the AC on. It
take the edge off the heat just enough.

Frank, you're tougher than me! Now, being what some Texans would refer to as
a 'damn Yankee (grew up in central IL), I'd be willing to bet that I do more
top down cold weather driving than you do! I love top down, cold weather
driving!

I grew up on Long Island. For misery, a Long Island 90 degree, 90 percent
humidity day is hard to beat. As is a bitingly cold Atlantic wind in the
winter. I often drive with the top down here in Dallas in the winter with
the heat on. I will admit to keeping the top up sometimes, though.

I guess I broke you down with that 'damn Yankee' comment eh? ;-) You
blasphemer ;-)

One form of summer driving that I miss in the 99, that I enjoyed in the 92
is top up (for shade) and rear window unzipped and down flat, with the
windows down. Your AC on, feature has a bit more effect and in this case,
you can drive 'al fresco' almost any time.
