(warning do not attempt this at home, the actor is not a professional and this is probably stupud)- medium vice-grip on the crank pulley holding the super charger belt so it wont move, much. - incrementally increase torque setting to #120 - turn key on. - describe a biological function. - remove vice grip (and broke s/c belt.) - notice damage to fan shroud - replace s/c belt and repeat above swapping steps 2 and 4 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ - take for test ride - note motor sounds nice and strong. - be happy that the 1.5 year engine (twice), tranny and s/c rebuild job has worked well - jump when a hot, sweet smelling florescent liquid drips onto your right foot - reply to ng posts and investigate souce of said liquid...... errrrrr |

When you put the car in gear, the engine is locked to the rear wheels. Compression has nothing to do with the crank in the engine. Do you have an automatic ?? This works if the car is a stick shift. An old motorcycle trick - take out a sparkplug and cram a length of nylon rope into the cylinder (leaving the end hang out of course). The nylon will keep the engine from rotating but not hurt the piston, valves, etc.; and when you're done just pull it out and replace the plug. miker |

Well you might, but you are just torqing or breaking it loose. What do you care if the crank moves a little. It will not change anything now that you have the belt on, you are JUST breaking it loose or torqing the bolt! Once the bolt has been broken loose, go ahead and do what you are going to do! Same thing for torque. You don't care if the crank moves, the work is already done. Bruce |
