Speaking of Obama's Canadian visit...................
Yes, I eventually worked out what GTA was...
Was in Tronna several times until fairly recently while I was working with a Canadian company. After I had done all the sights etc I stopped staying in King Street and 'moved' to Richmond Hill. "Big Smoke" was used for London as well. Can't do that any more as it has been cleaned up. DAS To send an e-mail directly replace "spam" with "schmetterling" --- "MoPar Man" > wrote in message ... A much less common term (used more frequently 10+ years > ago) is "the big smoke". > > Media broadcasts (most notably sports coverage) infrequently refers to > Toronto as "Hog Town". News coverage frequently substitutes "GTA" for > Toronto (Greater Toronto Area). As in "A cold weather advisory has been > posted for the GTA tonight". A less frequent substitution is "the 416" > (the telephone area code for the core area of Toronto). |

Don't care for it that much but in this case I'll make an
exception...Especially if it's after a couple of glasses of Maker's Mark... I am more of a Scotch man, but happily guzzle transatlantic whiskeys, too. DAS -- To send an e-mail directly replace "spam" with "schmetterling" --- "cavedweller" > wrote in message ... [...] Tranna is the Michigan pronunciation. Wot, no CC? |
