2001 Passat TDI 1896 CC 58K miles,

A timing belt and tensioner change is due.

What other parts do I need??

Should I change the water pump or any other parts at the same time??

By all means replace the water pump & gasket. A little extra labor.
Replace the tensioner too. About to replace the one on my 02 1.8T with
58k miles.

Is there a good chance of the water pump failing before the 120k timing belt
change?? . . . and talking of chances, what are the chances of the timing
belt failing prior to 60K if I delay??

You need the Bentley to do this. You will need a VAG-COM or factory
scan tool to set the timing properly. There are some locking tools
needed for the initial basic timing.

On the A4, there are some stretch bolts to replace on engine mounts.
Don't know about the B5. Look at
http://pics.tdiclub.com/pdf/a4timingbelt.pdf for an idea of what the A4
procedure is like.

I'm getting sorted out with most of the above thanks, but haven't dealt with
the stretch bolts you mention yet.
Sorry about the spam . . . just realised and angry about it .

Change the water pump. Also, it's very convenent to buy TB change kits
from various online sellers. Among some I know are reputable:

http://www.worldimpex.com/

http://tdiparts.com/catalog/

http://www.metalmanparts.com/categor...g?categoryId=8

Remember, you want a kit for an A4 TDI with the long lasting belt.
