91 Crown Victoria problem
I have a 91 crown vic, that won't start when it rains, when its damp,
when its moist or when snow is melting, even the day after a rain or snow fall. I have taken it to a couple mechanics and they can't find a problem, but the car still does it. Does anyone know what the problem is or how I can fix it? |

Does anyone know what the problem > is or how I can fix it? > Assuming that you mean engine will crank, but will not run. No start when damp is usually a secondary ignition problem. Moisture is allowing high voltage to leak to ground. Most likely ignition coil problem, but my method to diagnose would be to observer secondary ignition patterns on an oscilloscope. Might have to wet the engine compartment during test to recreate the problem. Other than that, you might have wiring to crank sensor that shorts out when wet. Do you know if you have spark at the plugs when this happens? Are the injectors pulsing? Is there pressure in the fuel rail? These are things that would lead to the answer. Ask your mechanic to check those things when it will not start. If you would like tips on how to check them yourself, post back with more details. -- Kevin Mouton Automotive Technology Instructor "If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy" Red Green |

91 Crown Victoria problem
if i remember correctly, the 91 crown vic still has a distributor..so
check your cap and rotor....coil wire...ignition module,...mounted under the side of distributor or on left inner fender. #8 chevy in victory lane-saturday night at richmond-----way to go june-bug!!!!!!!!! |

91 Crown Victoria problem
I agree with the other posters. It sounds like you need a basic tune-up. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor should do the trick. While your in there, check the filters (air, PCV valve, fuel, breather) and change any that you are unsure of the last time they've been changed.. -- richtazz ------------------------------------------------------------------------ richtazz's Profile: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...?userid=221877 View this thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=561419 http://www.automotiveforums.com |
