96 Grand Am won't start - most of the time.
My 96 Grand Am has been having problems for about two weeks - at first
it took me a few tries to get the engine to start, but now I'm lucky if it will start at all, even with 15 minutes of continously turning the ignition on. What happens is, the car cranks once and you can hear the car sort of splutter and choke on the gas, but it won't start - and the starter keeps going, but not in a series of short cranks like you'd normally hear, one long continuous, sort of whiny-souding crank. Occasionally, the car will still start up just fine on the first crank. Then problem tends to be worse when it is colder out, but doesn't necessarily adhere to that pattern. The only issues with the car that I am aware of are a bad muffler and a cracked fuel-filler line, but would either of these influence the car starting? |
