Is this the same youtube video that refers to South Boston as Iracings
"home track"? Iracing is based in Massachusetts not Virginia, where
South Boston is. Iracing's home track would be Lime Rock or Stafford
Springs, or perhaps New Hampshire.

Larry's a bit of a fanboy, well ok, a raving fanboy, so you'll have to
excuse his error.

I think Larry, like others, is understandably enthusiastic for a product
he's been watching grow for quite a while. I can understand where his
enthusiasm comes from.

However coming to the product from the outside, with a fresh pair of eyes,
gives you a slightly different take on the product as it stands. That's
why there are legitimate differences of opinion between the hardcore
faithful and those who have had less time to bond with the iRacing
'child'.

I am currently torn between wanting to give this child a big hug, and
wanting to put it up for adoption wearing a black eye. I sort of enjoy
racing the Skippy... it is indeed fair to say this is the best racing
physics available to date. But the novelty of running at the back has
worn off. I'm at the stage where I really need to go offline for a few
months and practise in traffic against AI in order to sharpen my
reactions and improve lap times. But that's not an option, and gambling
with other people's SR isn't fair.

So I remain torn between my head and my heart. My heart says I want to
keep racing. He head says take a break for a few months and come back
after Christmas when there might be a bigger pool of talentless Skippy
drivers to race against. Racing against the talented ones is no fun. :->

Andrew McP

PS Between writing this and posting I ran a couple of races. In the first
I somehow managed to be placed 4th on the grid out of 13. Now I'm *always*
at the back, ok. So I was immediately scared out of my wits. :-) I
planned to make a slow start and let a lot past, but the guy opposite me
made a very slow start as well, so I headed off in 2nd (!) for half of
the first lap. Then I went off in my haste not to be a danger to others.
Too much rear view mirror, not enough braking point.

Still, it was a neat x1 off, nobody else involved. I waited for the rest
to pass, then joined in my natural position at the back.

One lap later it turns out I'm not the slowest rookie on the block this
time, and the two guys I've caught up with are in trouble in the final
turn. First spins ahead of me, second gets caught up, I'm feeling smug
because I backed off in anticipation of trouble.

Ah, but the first driver forgets to put his foot on the brake and his
off-track spin turns into a sharp reverse onto the track. I clip him
while avoiding, x4 incident, I have to reset for the very first time in
an iRace. So did the second guy who clipped the spinner first.

The original racer appears undamaged and continues!

It was one of those iRacing moments which make you want to delete the
thing off your HD immediately. Still, that's racing... blah, blah. If you
can't take the heat... blah, blah. Read the <we're_not_worthy>Sporting
Code</we're_not_worthy>... blah, blah.

Calm down, think of meadows & flowers & stuff, carry on. Managed to
complete the race with only one more x1 as I put my wheels a little too
far over the curb. Donated a whole heap of iRacing points to the leaders
though, and clocked up a mighty total of 7 incident points, a personal
record! Fortunately the SR still shows 4.99 though, so there's clearly
some invisible overhead available (it goes over 5 but you don't see it, I
believe).

Ok, decided to punish myself by entering the Rookie Solstice race just
about to start. I haven't been in it for a while because... well, because
despite what the SRT youtube iRacing review says, IT'S EFFING CRAP!
Nimble my arse. The only thing nimble about that car is me as I climb out
of it and run away as fast as my legs can carry me... or about twice as
fast as Usain Bolt sprinting to save his children from being eaten by a
crocodile, whichever is quicker.

Still, for every sim-crime there must be sim-punishment, so in I get for
the race. It'll be good for my soul.

Now, you know how sometimes when you return to an old sim car after
racing something more entertaining you find you've improved... that the
car you hated has become easier to drive somehow? Well, bollox to that!
My fastest lap in that race was 1:08, 2s off my pb, and miles slower than
normal drivers.

Fortunately this wasn't a normal race. There seem to be enough USAnian
rookies around at the moment to bump up the numbers in these beginners''
races, and so although I was slowest at the start, I finished in 4th
because... well, because all the others crashed horribly and disconnected
rather than get back on the track and rescue a bit of SR. So that was
about as satisfying as dropping the baton on the last leg of the 4x100m
relay race.

PPS I don't think I've got the hang of this PS business yet.

You have not seen my internal posts. I assure you, I make my share of
gripes.

I'm just providing information. It's up to you to join or not. Your use of
the term "Fanboy" indicates to me you are most likely not mature enough for
iRacing.

iRacing is not a PC Game by any stretch. It is a new class of online
Motorsports Simulation.

Oh, and Visine may help with that eye strain...
