Inexpensive Car Reccommendation
I'm looking to buy an inexpensive new car in the near future to be used
primarily for commuting. It just needs to have four doors and air conditioning. Fuel economy and purchase price are prime considerations. Any suggestions? Dave |

The question is in itself an oxymoron. A reliable fuel efficient safe car that is environmental friendly and at the same time cheap does not combine. With a cheap car you are most reliant on a good service-man/woman. If you have one in your neigborhood that is willing to keep your car running you might ask that person for advice. If you don't trust anyone, well you are back at your original question. In us i'd go for a common us-made compact. In sweden i'd go for a volvo. > Dave -- Peter Håkanson IPSec Sverige ( At Gothenburg Riverside ) Sorry about my e-mail address, but i'm trying to keep spam out, remove "icke-reklam" if you feel for mailing me. Thanx. |

Here are a few sites: Top 10 Least expensive http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/...5/article.html Under 15k http://www.edmunds.com/new/pricerang...dan/index.html Lowest Cost to Own http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/tco/2....tcoawards.6.* Most Fuel Efficient http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/...ars.top10..6.* For Shorter People http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/...ars.top10..9.* For Taller People http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/...rs.top10..10.* Least Expensive to Insure http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/...6/article.html Several variables, mainly depends on personal preference. Might also consider dealer location and reputation. hth > > Dave > > |

I've tried out an Accent that met your requirements, and it's not bad at all in terms of space and performance considering its size. And of course, it gets good gas mileage. The Korean brands don't have much of a reputation, so they compensate with generous warranties. Tradeoffs: the Accent has poor rear seat crash protection (but it will only be your commuter car, right?), and it depreciates rapidly in value, which is bad news if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, it's good news for those of us who want to buy a relatively new sedan -- still carrying the original basic warranty -- at a price of a Toyota twice its age. If buying Korean sounds scary, there is the Toyota Echo. Chris |

Thanks for all your replies. I decided on a Dodge Neon.
