Default File or replace plugs?

My service manual says to replace plugs if the electrodes are
rounded. Instead, I filed them down with a diamond disc and
they're as good as new. I also filed down the platinum electrode
spark plugs which seems to make no visible difference. What is the
difference between a filed down electrode and a new spark plug?

Thanks
