VW GOLF question

1997 golf

never did have an issue starting, today while at a stop sign , then when I
went to go, a big buck, then stalled car.

The car then would not start......not a gig....nothing whatsoever.

light on fine and the car will catch on clutch.

Gee would the starter go as quick as this?

engine?
auto or manual trans?
mileage?

sometimes giving info helps people see what you are talking about! ;-)
Oh and something more than a Yes or No would be better answers. lol

I would have guessed timing belt, but you might have a VR6 engine.
Manual trans will have a clutch/starter switch
Auto trans will have some sort of Neutral Safety system.
