Default damaged transmission

I am checkin to see if anyone has any idea if a rear end collision can damage
a fly wheel or any onther part of my transmission. about six months ago my
explorer was parked in the drive way minding its on business when a drink
driver slammed into the back of it. he completely smashed in the rear end.
anyway. now i have a (chirping ) noise coming from my transmission. I took it
to a tranny shop and the guy told me that it is possible for that to have
happend..

Well, if it was smashed hard it could have put a lot of load on the
parking pawl inside the transmission, might have chipped some metal
off it. Was the driveshaft rammed up into the transfer case? Maybe
the noise is coming from the transfer case (if your's has one).
