Default Which 328i Convertible do I want?

I'm in the market for a used convertible. Mostly for fun, as we have a
Volvo wagon for the family.

My brother has a 2001, I believe a 328iC (or would it be Ci?). I liked it
and am interested in which years represent the same model. I'm interested
in the automatic.

Thanks in advance.

Tom

I have an '02 330cica (ci/California). I think BMW went to 325 and 330 in
'01. I'm not sure if they sold 328's and 330's concurrently. I'm sure
someone in here will no doubt correct me. ;-)

We bought an Electric Red, '02 330. The thing has been a dream. If you can
find a low mileage example that has been serviced right along, IMO, you
can't go wrong. You will be paying a premium for the convertable. 30 to 35k,
depending on the milage. I would even go so far as to suggest you buy from a
dealer and get the extended, warrenty. You may be able to do better "PP"
(private party) but with the cost of maintaining these little beasts the
warrenty made sense to us. Plus, the dealer knows the maintenance history
and can provide you a hard copy, with a wink and a nudge, while some PP
can't, especially if they aren't the original owner.

We have had nothing but fun with this car. Much more practical than we
thought at first. I'm not afraid of taking it anywhere.

Jeff

The E46 convertibles have been quite similar (except for the displacement
bump from 2.8 to 3.0) from 2000 through 2005.

That's exactly what I was looking for. So the 97-99 are a different series?
They're significantly cheaper. Any thoughts on Pros and Cons?

Thanks,

Tom
