Thanks for the above comments......I have a few more questions

could the camshaft timing really be knocked of or slip while your
accelerating???......O, and I just did a compression test and the head
gasket is fine and I keep checking for a coolant and oil mix but there
staying seperate, But how important is the O2 sensor i to the car
running smoothly<thanks>

What "above comments" are you talking about? This appears to be anew thread
from a new poster.

And the oxygen sensor is rather important indeed.

you're mike linquist, right?

yes, the belt can slip if not tensioned correctly. on my 89 civic, when
i changed the belt, i had the timing cover off and before i'd touched
anything else, i reversed the crank [something you should never do btw!]
to time the cam, and because the previous mechanic had not tensioned the
belt correctly, i watched the belt skip a tooth! i was lucky it hadn't
happened in operation.

google this group - correct belt tension [and timing] is essential. the
manufacturer instructions are very specific - the process must be
followed to the letter. google this group for previous posts on what to
do, or better yet, buy the factory workshop manual from helm.com - the
best tool you'll ever buy for this vehicle.

oxygen sensor is very important, but won't give the symptoms you describe.
