Impala steering will not lock, key will not turn

My 2004 Impala is locked up. The steering wheel will not lock & the
key will not turn. We tryed rocking the car to lock the steering wheel
in place but nothing happens. What can I try to get my key to turn in
the ignition switch so the computer can tell me what is wrong?

Something is broken in the column. The computer isn't going to tell you
anything. The column will have to be taken apart to determine the problem.

Is there a strain on the parking gear? Do you have the wheels turned all
the way to the right or left?

That's all I can come up with.

I don't think your steeering wheel is supposed to lock - especially if
the Ignition switch is in the dashboard, which I think is.

My steering wheel doesn't lock on my 2005 Buick with a column mounted
Ignition Switch.
