Default 98 squeaks groans

Okay I realize my 98 explorer is 7 years old but I have this bad
squeak/clunk coming from the front end. When you push down on the front
end it sound as if it is coming from the shock. I just replaced the
shocks so this is not the problem. When your inside the vehicle moving
the sound resonates right through the steering column but it does not
do it while turning the wheel only when going over a bumo or irregular
surface. Bushings? If somebody has a clue let me know. Thanks

Could be the stabilizer bar bushings. An easy test is to remove them (
pretty easy) and then see if the groaning is still there. Or better
yet, have someone push down on the front end while you are underneath
and see if its coming from there.

We had the same problem...I replaced the shocks and it was still there and
then we replaced the stabilizer bushings and the problem was gone.

When you say stabilizer bushings what exactly are you talking about. I
see sway bar bushings, torsion bar bushings and bushings on the A arm
doohickey?????

Sway bar is the same thing. I am referring to the 2 bushings on the
sway bar at the front. They are held in by U shaped brackets, which are
mounted to the frame with 2 bolts per bracket.
