Default Care to guess what the fine is for no proof of insurance?

I read this thread after googling. The failure to show proof of
insurance has once again reached a new low.

Arlington, Texas will start towing your car if you not immediately show
you card. If you later show up in court with the card, you still have
to pay at least the towing charge. You might also have to walk home.
Let me remind you that the temps exceed 110 in the summer in Arlington.

In Texas you already had to have your proof to get your license. And
your annual safety-emmissions test. And also yearly when you get your
registration.

This is not what was promised when this kind of law was first dreamed
up.

Good for them.

So who do you think should pay for the tow?

That will just help you remember to carry your insurance card.

Are cops now asking to see insurance cards without probable cause? Under
what circumstances?

FG,

I hope you get caught without your card. Maybe you are so perfect that
you never make a harmless mistake. This was not the intent of the law,
but dumb asses say it will never happen to them and that is how a
crappy law gets by. Why not just shoot them - can't happen to me.
Making some elderly person walk home at 110 could kill them.

It's not about reducing uninsured drivers. It is about catching some
poor slob who loaned his car to his brother in law or daughter who was
home from college. The ticket does that.

>>That will just help you remember to carry your insurance card.

What a stupid thing to say. Why not just get rid of a crappy law. Why
is it not nationwide? Cause too many people would vote the fools out
of office. This is a Jerry Jones pay for my stadium hidden tax.

They have always asked to see the cards without probable cause. That
is not new.

How? Do they walk up to you in the street? Knock on your door?

Random papers check points on the roads. You drive up to them.

They can hail a cab, call a friend, hitch hike, etc. The law does not
say they have to walk.

What are you going to do when you have an accident with this poor slob?
exchange insurance info? No, he doesn't remember his insurance policy
number (or he misremembers).

This is all about passing out tickets and collecting money. Nothing
else.(period)
Somewhere on your license or something else you signed having to do with
operation of a motor vihicle on public highways, you gave up most normal
(pre-bush) constitutional rights. Yes, you signed them away without
noticing. The founding fathers warned of such things.

If this was all about passing out tickets and collecting money, then
why do they tow?

Since when did you have the right to drive on public roads without
insurance (or proof of financial responsibility)?

They probably would have advised you against signing things you have
not read, but do you have a cite?
