Default radio in SAfe mode..

89 Jetta Wolf 16v
I bought the car with a non factory radio in it that has now gone out. The
old "dated 3/1990" original? radio also came along (uninstalled) with the
car purchase. When I tried to install the old original the display reads
"SAF e". I figure I need a code to be able to use the old radio. The old
radio was supposedly working when is was changed out. Ideas??
Thanks!
Lou

You need the key code for the radio... If it's not in the documentation (if
any) you got with the car then pull into a VW dealer the next time you drive
by one and ask them for it. It is the original radio with that car so they
should be able to give you a code... might need your VIN #.

Check for a white sticker in the trunk around the spare tire. The 4 digit
radio code is on it at least on the newer vehicles.
