XP doesn't actually support game-port anymore, what 'limited' support that
is left in XP, is as stated -> very very limited, even the Microsoft wheels & joysticks that MS branded don't work right, or fully supported anymore (on the wheels it is impossible if not just near impossible to get separate pedals/axis and or the Force Feedback to work under XP...) But, as far as TSW goes, your best solution is to get the (1 or 2 part solution) upgrade/fix directly from Thomaswheel, or atleast get the same exact components elsewhere... Their (1) gameport to USB converter is the best one out there (they do not MFG it) and (2) then many wheels have to have the POTs (potentiometers that the wheel and pedals use to detect/relay movement or input) changed to ones that are compatable with the signals that the USB device expects. as far as I have read on the boards over the last couple years, you can even send in the wheels and they will do the "fixes" for a small fee, IIRC? Bottom line is gameport support+XP=good luck...
Gameport support is severely limited in WinXP. I thought you were a PC support guy, you should already know that? At least, not "in the open". Many companies run programs to sniff out and remove games from computers on their networks. When I was in the office envirnment, my support guys knew a ton of stuff about network protocols, security, doing massive upgrades to a few hundred computers at a go, and a whole bunch of other stuff. They knew diddley about gameports, or whether ATI was better than nVidia at rendering GPL or NR2K3. -- Darryl |

So, I would go that route .. Crap - I was hoping that it was just some setting I missed because I'm not used to XP. Looks like I'm stuck racing with my old PC until I get the new pots. Either that, or load Win2k on it instead... Bottom line, Eldred: USB is a better "game port" than the old game port
(consumes fewer resources; less lag). Yer PDPI excepted.
