Default 156 Internittent squeal from driver's side rear wheel

2001 156 with about 28,000 miles. Just started squealing yesterday, but
it's intermittent. Brake pads? Any ideas before I start spending?

Probably needs new pads/discs - get Kwikfit to take a look.

too right.
I dare say that there are a few good uns out there but most of them seem to
be more interested in how much they can con you out of.
In my experience they are !mostly! shaved monkeys in blue overalls.
they'd rather flog you a new caliper than even try to clean and ease the old
one!
Certainly in my town they are a long way off being the cheapest option.

==================================================

I have had the intermittent squeal on my last Alfa 156.
It was a stuck caliper - I reckon you need to get it done quick or theres a
likelyhood that the disc will warp due to the heat of the pad rubbing on it
all the time.

Our Local KwikFit is superb. If you want rip off merchants try our main
dealer. 250 quid for a lambda sensor -120 quid just to hook it up to the
laptop! KwikFit charges 90 quid for full service and even took a loss on the
8 long life spark plugs and I then get another 10% off with the club card.

Yep - I've had 2 sticky calipers now - always on the rear offside. They were
changed under warranty, but I had to pay for pads&disks as they were
consumeables. I had mine done at Mangoletsi and Halfords AA centre - same
price and cheaper than Caledonia. It's a bit of a known problem. Mine too
went at about 30,000 and 60,000.
