Default Swap question

I'm in the process of getting a '92 coupe to replace my '82 Capri.

When I swap the drivetrain from the Capri - '93 5.0/AOD - Can I just unbolt
the K-member (93 also), struts, sway-bar, exhaust, trans crossmember, brake
lines, and everything else and lift the body over the engine? It seems like
it would work. I'm not looking forward to doing those front springs again.
I'd it seems like less work to remove everything as a module, rolls it out
from under the body, and roll it under the new body. However, is there any
alignment issues for the k-member that will prove difficult?

Thanks,

Jim S.

I have actually seen this entire swap done in less than 2 hours at a show
before. They even had *audience participation* competitions. One person was
allowed to enter on each professional team to compete. When they did the
swap though it was a lot more than the k-member/engine setup though.

Years ago, my father and I did pretty much the same thing you're
contemplating, with a 1980 Fairmont drivetrain into a 1982 Mustang coupe
body. The Fairmont had been t-boned, but the running gear was excellent. I
don't remember any particular issues as far as the swap itself; IIRC, only 4
bolts held the k-member to the body in either car, and we rolled the entire
setup from under one vehicle to the other. We had some issue with the front
brakes/calipers arrangment, probably to do with hose fitment, but when all
was said and done, we had the only straight-six cylinder Mustang coupe ever
'made'. Your swap sounds more 'apples to apples' than ours was, so I'm sure
you can make it work.

We drove that car for years until my Dad gave it to a fellow for his son,
who needed a car. It may have been a hybrid, but it was one of the best
running cars we've owned.

Good luck!

Dammit, BM. You been sipping the ethylene glycol again? You KNOW it makes
you ****y. :-P

Okay, so a couple of clarifications: called Pops, and he told me it was a
1979 Mustang body, and the motor was from a 1980 Fairmont. So I got my
years wrong. And no, they didn't put 200 straight sixes (or any straight
six, for that matter) in any 1979 Mustangs from the factory. For some
reason, I had thought they discontiued the use of the 200 in Mustangs, but
apparently that wasn't until 1983

Better? :-)

Hey...when I wanna be the A-hole, I do it straight!

That question WAS on the up! I mean, who knows without having the book.

But the main distinguishing feature separating the years was the hideous
inner door panels on the 79, 80
