Mazda Hardtop Wall Brackets

We have purchased genuine Mazda hardtop wall brackets for my wife's 2003
MX5's hard top but the instructions say to remove the hardtop, fit brackets
and only then to measure the spacing for the drilled holes in the wall.

I had hoped to pre-mount the brackets to make removal and storage quicker
and safer.

Does anyone out there know the distance between centres required for the
parts which screw on the wall and how far down from the garage ceiling to
allow for lifting on and off?

When the garage fitted the hard top they did not show me how to remove it.
do these instructions exist on the web? or can anyone tell me?

Lower the windows, unplug the rear window defroster, unlatch the four latches,
slide the hardtop back about 1" to clear the rear deck pins, and lift it up and
off.

One person _can_ do it alone; two makes it much easier.

If you really want to try it alone, the way I've done it is:

1) Cover the front seats with towels, leaving the passenger
side door open.

2) Wedge yourself into the car facing forward with one foot on
each seat and your back against the roof. [Yes it's as
akward as it sounds.]

3) Reach back and up and grab the side latchs or whatever part
of the roof you can get your hands on.

4) Stand up a bit.

5) Step out of the car carying the roof.

It's a lot easier to wait for a second set of hands.
