Default Freon Question

There should be sticker, clearly stating the type and quantity of
refrigerant. Perhaps on the cross-brace, just above radiator, or the
underside of the engine hood. You can also tell by the size and shape of the
low and high side ports - those for R134a will be much larger and smooth on
the outside. R12 will be smaller and have external thread.

I bought a "retrofit" kit for my '92 and the new fitting for R134 is a
quick-connect type. I suspect that if it is still R12 it will not have the
new fitting. My '91 still has R12 in it and it could use a recharge but
from what I've read it may be cheaper to retrofit it too but first I'll need
to have the R12 removed by a qualified AC tech.
