Default help with a 97 plymouth voyager

hi
my husband just replaced the fuel pump and the fuel filter about a
month ago. it was running fine until about 3 days ago when it started
doing the same things it was doing before...when i stop it jerks
forward and wants to die......i smell gas after i get out also.....
could the filter be clogged again so soon? could the fuel tank be
filled with a bunch of crud causing this to happen?. and if so can i
use a cleaner to clean it out? any advice would be grateful...thanks so
much!!!
denise
