1998 Neon "check engine soon" codes 12 43 55
Hi all,
My wife has a '98 Neon and just paid it off last Friday. Less than a week later, the "check engine soon" light came on. I was able to obtain the diagnostic codes by turning the ignition on and off three times in a row and here is what I got: 12, 43, and 55. Can anyone explain what these codes mean? Thanks |

I had a similar problem in a Dodge Daytona. My battery was marginal.
The engine controller was not getting sufficent voltage and was throwing the same codes. After the battery was replace no more codes. Keep in mind that you will have the 12 code after a battery replacement until 50 successful engine starts or the dealer resets the engine controller. A new set of spark plugs seems to have fixed the problem. As a bonus,
the car has a bit more power now too. The gaps of the old spark plugs (which came with the car when it was bought used) were WAY off the recommended gap.
