I get the feeling that I am either confusing you, or you are confusing me,
so it may be better if I shut up

The plunger unit should move up and down depending on the temperature.

Don't give up on me...there's hope.

With the TA (OEM) I can see how the fluid in the tube will cause the
plunger to go up or down and is temperatur-dependent.

But with the 'dummy' TA, it's just a bolt that holds the plunger in
one position. And it seems, to me at least, that if it is manually
adjusted to the 27 or 29mm setting when installed, that it would keep
it in that position all the time. Yes? No?

I'm just having difficulty understanding how the 'dummy' TA can
self-regulate itself, if, in fact, it can do that.

Sorry if I was confusing.

Yep, I would think so.

Not a problem. It's just as likely me to be confusing. My knowledge of
SPICA is entirely theoretical

The Montreal is an Alfa V8 , uses 'dual', 4_cyl Spica pumps ...

Your Spidyer uses a single, 4_cyl Spica pump ...

I'd suspect that the Montreal uses a differently, calibrated
"set" of dual , 4_cyl Spicas ...

On 'civilized' roads, the "blur" on your left,
passing you,
=was= a Montreal.
"Is" how you tell.

:-)

a) Hopefully =NOT= a dummy ...
b) Hopefully , the push_pull cable "replacement" TA ...

I'll 'eat' it(b) if it doesnt work.

" ... down the road " ... same problem , leaked fluid & back to a 'rich'
mode.

*IF* you were
=scrupulous= in keeping the 'area' =clean= ,
and,
'now' mount a thoroughly 'cleaned' TA ...
wait till the next engone oil change ...
=else=
change the engine oil now.

The Spica uses 'engine' oil for =it's= lubrication.

"A" dummy 'TA' is just 'that' ...

The "user" adjusts the F/A mix to a(single/static) 'mode' of his/her
choosing ...
leaves "it" positioned "there" ...
unless the 'joy' of constant bonnet up/down is desired.

"Brits" ,
living in =cold=, thick-walled Castles ...
and being 'Lairds' of "such" ,
arent =expected= to delve into the commoner's realm of Spicas.
The Chauffer(sp?) "do" that.

The reason for the "(sp?)" is ..
that I dont got "one" ,
and dont got =no= 'expectations' of =ever= having "one", either.

I 'live' on the "street" ...
scraping 'pennies' together,
paying for the LF's Alfa 'spares' .

Money is 'cheap', over 'here'.

Machine shop hourly rates are $70, to $100 an hour.

Very few Alfas in TX., USA .
GeeDubYa dont allow too many.
