Default 85 diesel with broken timming belt

What damage is caused when the timming belt breaks on an 85 diesel golf
1.8lt engine?

Your engine would be destroyed because the pistons would collide with the
valves. Happened to me.

Default 85 diesel with broken timming belt

Pull that head off and see if you have bent valves. If it's just a bent
valve you can replace it with a new one and it'll run fine. If the
piston has valve marks on it you might want to change those as well.

There was a 20VT that slipped timing and all 20 valves had to be
replaced- after new valves it runs fine.

Diesels bend valves and do other damage to the head. Figure a new head at
least.
