Default '70 Baja Bug Rear suspension problem

Hi,
My name is Mark Tuck, my dad has written here in the past, but I want
to take things into my own hands. Anyway, We were rebuilding the rear
suspension. My dad was jacking up the spring plate and *bam*, the
splined tube, in the center of the car, lost half it's splines. We were
putting in adjustable spring plates, and a stronger torsion bar.

What I really need is a guide on how to best get past the sheet metal
around the tube, and cutting and replacing the part. Also, the
difficulty level of each thing, i've been stuck on this for maybe a
year, because I don know what to do.

Help would be greatly appreciated,
Mark Tuck

Hi Mark,

Maybe the inner spline has broken away?
Have a read of this article for installing rear adjusters, it will give you
an idea of what to expect

Hi,
Thanks for answering. The inner spline did strip. I have looked at it.
But a few problems i have a
1. The photos show the tube minus any sheet metal around it, and i want
to get everthing off, with out ruining anything i dont have to.
2. How do i know where to place the 1st cut, and what do i use to cut
it. Hack saw, miliwakee sawz-all??
3. How much of a precision job is it. I would think there are alignment
criteria that have to be met. I need to know this kind of stuff.

There are other things i probably have not mentioned.

Thanks,
Mark Tuck
