Default BMW E34 drivers seat

Hi, is it possible to use a front passengers seat to replace a drivers
seat? Will it fit?

I want to replace mine for one without wear or tear, but its quite hard
to find a perfect drivers seat, the rest of the seats are like new in
the car.

You do see them on Ebay, but normally to the whole set, and, obviously,
I don't want to buy a whole set if the rest are OK.

I assume it will be easier to find a good passengers seat at a brakers,
but of course, before I do this I'd like to know if it fits.

Looking at them, I assume it will, but would like it if someone who
knows about such things could let me know.

Thanks

Does your car have electric seat control? If so, since the control are
on the side of the seat bottom, wouldn't it be difficult, if not
impossible, to access if you use a passenger seat on the driver side?

If only there were countries where the driver used the other side of the
car...

I bought a new driver's seat 'cover' - ie the upholstery cloth - from BMW
for my E34 some time ago and it wasn't expensive, and not a difficult job
to change. Dunno if it's still available. If they're the same, it would be
equally as easy to swap the 'cover' from a left to right seat. The seats
themselves on mine wouldn't have swapped as the driver's one had height
adjustment and the frame was different. IIRC, you'd have problems with the
seat belt catch too as it fixes to the seat frame.

But that was cloth. Leather would probably be cheaper to have repaired by
a specialist.

This is half the reason people buy sheepslin seat covers. The good (not cheap)
ones look decent and work as advertised (not cold in winter not hot in summer).

Seats may or may not be interchangable from drivers to passengers depending od
model and "fiddly bits". Have a good hard look at yours and decide.

But, the seat coverings are usually interchangable. So if it were me I'd get
a flawless passenger seat from a breakers, take the drivers seat out, drop
both off at an auto upholstery place and ask them to recover the drivers seat.

I paid about $60 to have them do this on my 633.

With the cloth upholstery on my E34 it was an easy DIY job - and I got new
from my dealer. I think I paid about 40 gbp.
In the UK, most car breakers will only sell complete sets of seats.
