1992 Chevy Lumina 6 cylinder radiator fans not coming on
Hi Everyone,
I'd like to thank everyone ahead of time for all the help. I have a 1992 Chevy Lumina, 6 cylinder, I think 3.1. I have ran my car with the air conditioning on and the 2 Radiator fans I have in my car do not come on, ever. When I turn the air conditioner on should at least one fan start immediately or not? Where do I need to look or what do I need to do to fix this? I've checked the fan motors and they work fine. I've got my repair manual and I think it's some kind of thermostat or temperature control, which is why I'm asking you guys. Thanks for the help Roscoe |

They come on at 222 dgerees, so a scanner is required to see the temps and
check if they work, check if there is 12v to them , the pcm grounds the relay based on ac pressure and/or engine temps. Yea Scott I think it's a relay to. You know I took it to a shop and they said it worked fine, this was a couple of years ago. Could it be that the relay was working off and on and now it's gone all the way out. Yea, I'll put a meter on it today but I've pulled the motors and check them, that was easy. I don't have a meter, got to borrow one, but I'm going to change the relay if it needs it or not. I've ran the car with the air on in 90 degree heat for an hour and still no fans either one. Thanks , I'll let you know how it goes. Roscoe |

Try this: Ground the diagnosis terminal. Looking at the scan tool connector
under the steering wheel, connect the two terminals top row to the right. Just bend a short piece of wire and plug it into the two connectors. Turn the key to on. The fans should come on. If they do not turn on, check fuses and replace relay with known good one. Report results. "Roscoe" > wrote in message oups.com... > > Yea Scott I think it's a relay to. Just noticed that both fans use the same ground location. Check that too.

It seems extremely unlikely that both relays would go bad at the same time.
You can swap with a known good relay and redo the test. If still no go, I'd check the grounds. Easiest way is to remove the fan connector and use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground. If this checks good I can give instructions on how to probe the relay socket to see if the computer is sending voltage.
