You weren't concerned enough to worry about it before you bought it. Why
should anyone else be concerned about your concern afterwards. "Homer" > wrote in message oups.com... >I bought a new caravan but I'm still concerned about the tranny. The tranny is covered by the power train warranty for 5 years 60000 miles. So the tranny good or not isn't my problem. All make can fail after 5 year 60000 miles. My question was to know if the tranny problems afflicting the van has been fixed or not...period, I never ask the reader here to be concernes for me , back to my question , if you cannot, dont want to, or ignorant of the subject just hit the road and dont look back. |

I bought a new caravan but I'm still concerned about the tranny
On my 4th unit (started in 84 now 02) and only one had transmission
problems (90) and that was early on and taken care of and driven over 100,000 without further ado. Rest all over 100,000 and no problems. Were all serviced at recommended intervals with recommended fluid. My brother had a 91 that he drove the heck out of and put what ever was at hand in the transmission and never serviced until it failed at 115,000. Replaced with rebuilt (not at Chrysler shop) and that failed all most immediately. Ed |

I bought a new caravan but I'm still concerned about the tranny
I've owned 3 Caravans and currently drive a 2000 model with 250K miles.
Never had a tranny problem with any of them. I clean the tranny pan about every 50K and a full flush once a year. Amazing how good maintenance avoids problems!!! |

I bought a new caravan but I'm still concerned about the tranny
My cousin worked in the service department at the local Dodge dealership for
a while. According to him, there was no problem with the transmissions. The problem was the the fluid was giving out at 12,000 miles...the recommended service interval was 36,000. Apparently the new fluid took care of that problem... It was also only primarily an issue for the 4-speed overdrive transmissions. I've got a 92 with the 3-speed and 3.0v6, 186k miles and counting...I bought it at 84k and have never had any tranny work done. (knock on wood) I've also not changed the fluid as often as I really should have... Wesley "Homer" > wrote in message oups.com... > I bought a new caravan but I'm still concerned about the tranny. I bought a new caravan but I'm still concerned about the tranny
Thanks to all of you folks. Another problem on an American car that was blown out of proportion. On the other end Honda was building tranny made out of marshmollow and that remain at the state of urban legend.... ;-) |

Just make sure when you get the tranny serviced they put the right fluid
into it. Chrysler trannies take a special fluid and the quick lube places almost always put in Dexron by mistake. Or they offer to put in this stuff that is supposed to change Dexron into the Chrysler fluid. It's crap. Don't fall for it. If in doubt, you are better to leave the old fluid in your tranny a while longer than take a chance with the fluid. If you think the fluid needs changing, ask first what fluid they want to use. If they say Dexron, hiss at them and leave. If they say Dexron and converter fluid, hiss even louder and leave. The fluid is usually Plus3 or Plus 4. Read your ower's manual and accept no substitutes. Ever. Dan "Homer" > wrote in message oups.com... > I bought a new caravan but I'm still concerned about the tranny.
